Last March, I set out to help this organization and raise $1000 in a year. We did it! Thanks to all my friends, family, and sorority members that donated to the cause. The event at Pump It Up, put my goal over the top. To date, I know we raised over $800. We had over 100 friends and family members to come and have an evening of fun. We can jump for joy, just like my little girl!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00837581379650549293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318095322427091302.post-53818839386288183692010-03-22T10:40:00.006-05:002010-03-22T10:48:50.415-05:00Yippee! You have reached out to us by sharing your concern, asking how to help, and seeking updates on MN and our cherished family and friends. Thank you for keeping MN and Haiti in the forefront of your thoughts. Please share this message with others who want to help during this unparalleled tragedy.

Our Haiti staff report that our facility, staff, and those we serve are still safe. However, they are bracing for the awesome challenges that lie ahead.

We need your financial support to maintain our daily operations. Medications, fuel, supplies and food - already difficult to obtain in Haiti - are becoming scarce. Prices for these essentials will skyrocket in the coming days, and they will become increasingly difficult to obtain. We must attempt to stay stocked and prepared, so we may continue to care for the mothers and babies who need our programs and services. Contributions to MN may be made on our web site at www.maisondenaissance.org or mailed to our office at the address below.

There is also a significant need for financial support of emergency relief efforts in Haiti: food, water, shelter and medical services provided by trained volunteers and professionals. We suggest supporting organizations that are on the ground and poised to assist with these immediate relief efforts in and around Port au Prince:

American Red Cross: www.redcross.org
TheGlobalOrphanProject(PoweredbyC3): ww.theglobalorphanproject.org
Episcopal Relief and Development: www.er-d.org
Partners in Health: www.pih.org

In response to your requests for updates, we offer the following blog site:
http://haitiearth.blogspot.com. We ask everyone to use the 'comment' feature to post their updates, questions, thoughts, and concerns. Maintaining this dialogue in a centralized location will allow easy and efficient access to multiple sources and ease e-mailbox congestion. MN will continue to add meaningful posts as we have more concrete updates to share.

Haiti needs you. MN needs you. There are countless ways to help, and we thank you for considering the options we have shared above. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and contributions, and for sharing this message. I'm happy to announce that my sorority chapter has decided to pick up this project as our International Awareness and Involvement program. The more voices the better to get the word out and people active and interested in the cause. I'm sure this partnership will help bring in the funds that we need.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00837581379650549293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318095322427091302.post-90098208824115841312009-07-22T12:29:00.004-05:002009-07-22T13:20:58.475-05:00Gone away for a while, but not ForgottenI can't believe I let two months roll on by, and haven't posted anything. It's been pretty busy around the household though. Aniyah is 14 months old now and is into stuff more than ever. The biggest change is that I loss my job of 9 years. I got the boot because of budget cuts and what not. Oh well, such is life. My parents just recently came to visit and they had a blast with the grandbaby. Early June we also took a trip to Key West, FL. Anyway, enough about me.

I'm excited to say that I'm a few dollars short of the half way mark for my $1,000 goal. I am trying to think of something worthwhile to give to the donors or fundraising ideas, but they are still in the brain storming stages. It was been a great joy to get hand written letters from the MN Foundation. It makes me feel like my efforts are definitely worthwhile even if its one dollar at a time. There's something else I'm excited about as well, but I'll keep that under wraps until it happens. It could be a major boost to this project. So pray with me that it happens.

Well, I'm back on the horse so my posts should not be so few and far between.

Later,

MarishaAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00837581379650549293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318095322427091302.post-44033692708544022992009-05-20T11:54:00.005-05:002009-05-20T13:50:50.653-05:00Happy Birthday and Hooray!Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well on this fine day. We are having to make alot of difficult decisions so that our work in Haiti can continue. To cut costs here (which means more money can be sent for our programs in Haiti), we will not take donations in because it costs to store them and then get them to Haiti, either by a container or with groups.", says the Program Director.

Therefore at this time, only monetary donations are being taken.

Thanks,

MarishaAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00837581379650549293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318095322427091302.post-65228156947681753062009-03-30T13:00:00.004-05:002009-03-30T13:04:14.338-05:00All AboardWell, things are starting to pick up. I began getting responses back immediately. Isn't that great!?! I know we are in a recession right now; however, there are people worse off than we are in other countries. We don't have to look far to find them either. Haiti is right off the coast of FL and the need there is so great. So, a special thank you to all that stepped up so quickly with no hesitiation. We are so blessed and those items were just laying around. My daughter didn't use any of the formula samples, so I must send those before they go bad. I have contacted a Birthing home, Maison de Naissance and told them of my intentions.
Please visit their website: http://www.maisondenaissance.org/
Here's some information I got from Cindy Obenhaus, Program Director, Maison de Naissance Foundation (abbreviated),

"Thank you so much for your open heart and willingness to help MN's mothers and babies!

1. Of course, we love $$$ as this goes directly to operations at MN to provide the maternal child services that are needed there.

Just to give you an idea, the programming costs of Maison de Naissance including patient care, transportation, salaries, etc per month = ~$50,000! It is a great misconception that Haiti is a cheap place to do mission work. Inflation has been as high as 45% in recent years, yet the average income per year is about $400-500 US.

Family Planning visit, Prenatal Visit, Welcome Kit for Baby all cost ~$50 (includes the lab tests, medications, etc)
Vaccinations: $10 for one baby visit with vaccination, $100 supplies all the recommended visits and vaccines for one year. *These are approximate costs

2. A couple of ideas for donations: (we no longer accept used baby clothing or equipment, only new)
Newborn to 12 months baby clothing: such as onsies, diapers (cloth w/ pins), t-shirts, lightweight sleepers, bibs, hats, Baby blankets, Diaper bags, Gifts for mothers such as toiletry kits, nice lotions, hair brushes, mirrors, etc

3. Arts and Crafts supplies for our mother's clubs: jewelry kits, beading kits, flower making kits

These are all great things to collect as many Haitian mothers and babies never get new cloths or items as everything seems to be hand-me down, used clothing from the US that is sold in markets. We like to be able to give our mothers and babies nice, new items because they deserve it and they appreciate it so much."

So, there is definitely a need.
I also created a logo for the project, >>>>see it to the right.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00837581379650549293noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318095322427091302.post-40137633668202560052009-03-06T19:15:00.003-06:002009-03-07T11:08:04.962-06:00Where do we begin, at the beginning
Hi friends,

Thank you for visiting my new blog site, so let me tell you what it's all about.

Lately, I've had this yearning to "go big" in doing something for someone else with my greatest inspiration being my daughter(pictured). I prayed about it, and lo and behold, this idea came to me in a dream. Why not collect baby clothes for the women of Haiti?!? Brillant.

Since my husband is from there and we are now parents, I had been paying more attention to their issues and have much sympathy. Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere, and just recently got ravished by hurricanes. The people have next to nothing. My idea was to simply collect baby clothes and products and send it to the new moms. I now know first hand how tough it is as a mom when you “have”, so I can’t imagine those who don’t. I know those women would be so grateful.

So my plan is to just pool together the resources I already have sorors, line sisters, nursing moms group at the hospital, Mocha Moms, the church, etc. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel, so I found something that already existed to donate to them. A special thanks to Marie Arnode Thelemaque for getting me the information. And now here we are.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00837581379650549293noreply@blogger.com0
